Nurse-Led Lactation Support: Evidence to Practice

Nurses are often the most consistent clinical presence in a breastfeeding family's hospital stay, which is exactly why this bundle was built by experienced practitioners with deep expertise in that setting. The instructors in this collection hold RN, APRN, or MD licensure with direct hospital experience, alongside a veteran IBCLC who has designed and led hospital lactation programs. Together, they give you the evidence-based knowledge and practical tools to support lactation confidently from a baby's first hours through the challenges that can arise in the days and weeks that follow.

• Rooming In. A practical guide to implementing safe, 24-hour rooming-in, covering the benefits for parents and infants, fall-risk precautions, safe sleep and skin-to-skin positioning, and how to navigate and document necessary separations, including NICU care. Instructor: Courtney Polk, MSN, RN, IBCLC.
• Assuring Breastfeeding Success. The 12 most critical, evidence-based steps for promoting breastfeeding success from labor and delivery through discharge, including early frequent feeds, safe skin-to-skin, baby-led latching, and avoiding unnecessary supplementation. Instructor: Angela Love-Zaranka, BA, IBCLC, RLC.
• Postpartum Recovery. A stage-by-stage look at normal postpartum recovery and common complications, from perineal lacerations and hemorrhage to postpartum mood disorders and return to exercise, and how each affects lactation. Instructor: Allison Ward-Moore, MD, IBCLC.
• Jaundice, Hyperbilirubinemia & Human Milk Feeding. Up-to-date, evidence-based guidance on assessing, treating, and preventing jaundice, so you can counsel families with confidence while protecting and promoting breastfeeding. Instructor: Sekeita Lewis-Johnson, DNP, FNP-BC, IBCLC.
• Facilitators and Barriers to Initiation of Lactation. A seven-part deep dive into the individual, institutional, cultural, and global factors that help or hinder breastfeeding initiation, blending sociology and anthropology with clinical practice. Instructor: Sarah Stilling, MSN, APRN, CPNP-AC/PC, IBCLC.
